Imitatio-Japan to hold its first meeting

A group of 15 scholars both Japanese and foreigners will be gathering at the Tokyo Hilton Hotel February 20th-21st for the first gathering of Imitatio-Japan.

In addition to the fact that almost all of René Girard’s works, as well as some secondary sources have been translated into Japanese there is a sizeable number of scholars in different fields who use Mimetic Theory. There has, however, never been a meeting of these scholars. Under the aegis of Imitatio and with its support we now have an opportunity to hold such a meeting.

Most of the people participating are professors at universities in Japan. Some are the translators of Girard’s work. Others use it in their own research. The disciplines represented are quite varied: literature, anthropology, political science, peace studies, philosophy and theology. The group is looking for ways to make mimetic theory more widely applied in Japan.
